Introdution
Baoshi mountain is located on the North Bank of North inner lake-West Lake of Hangzhou. The mountain is 78 meters high, together with Geling, it becomes the North screen of the West Lake. Baoshi Mountain is one of the loveliest places in Hangzhou to take a hike. Numerous well-kept paths wind through the forest, taking you up steep slopes and past pagodas, West Lake viewpoints and a temple. A perfect escape from the city bustle.
It is rich in ferric oxide, so it looks deep red and under the sunshine, it seems like the flowing glow as beautiful as jade, carnelian and emerald, hence it is named Baoshi Hill or Gem Hill. In the list of New Top Ten Scenes of The West Lake, it is described as a scene named Bao Shi Liu Xia( Precious stone hill floating in rosy clouds). Originally named Ju Shi Shan or Huge Rock Hill, Baoshi Hill is full of unique peaks and stones.
What to see
In front of Laifeng Pavilion, there is a huge stone like an egg located on the top, and local people consider it is a falling stone from heaven and call it Shou Xing Shi(Stone of Longevity Star).
On the north side of the hill top, it is a huge stone, which is named Kan Song Tai(Platform of Appreciating Pine Tree), on which Tun Xia( Keeping Sunglow), two Chinese Characters, were carved there. The west side is Chuanzheng Cave.
On the top of hill, there are a lot of special and eye-catching rocks with different styles and shapes, in the past several centuries, a lot of famous scholars left their inscriptions on the rocks, most of them belonging to the rare and highly-valued calligraphic works as well as the important resources and materials to historical and cultural study are preserved well. Some steep paths are really dangerous and breath-taking. But their routes and designs are really exquisite. On the top, visitors can have a bird's-eye view.
Main Attractions
Baochu Pagoda
Baochu Pagoda is located on the north side of West Lake on the top of Precious Stone Hill. Also known as Baochu Pagoda, it is generally thought to have been built over one thousand years ago in the Later Zhou Dynasty of the Five Dynasties( 948AD-960AD). In ancient times, the pagoda was repaired six times in the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the 54th year of Qianlong( 1789AD), a broken stele recording Wu Yanshuang's construction of the pagoda was found. The record said that the original pagoda had seven layers of wooden eaves. The pagoda we see now was rebuilt in accordance with the original in 1933, the 22nd year of the Republic od China. In 1997, the rusty spire was replaced.
