-Su Causeway: The Su Causeway was built in the fifth year of Yuanyou Period in the Northern Song Dynasty (1090) and has evolved since then. At that time, Su Shi (Dongpo), a poet known as the prefect in Hangzhou Prefecture, had the West Lake dredged, and built the Su Causeway by dredged silt. To commemorate Su Dongpo's achievements in controlling the West Lake, it is named as "Su Causeway". Since the Southern Song Dynasty, Spring Dawn on the Su Causeway has ranked the top among the "Ten Views of the West Lake". Built above horizontal waves, the long Causeway links the South Mountain and the North Mountain, adding a charming landscape for the West Lake.

-Leifeng Pagoda: The original pagoda was built in 975 AD at the order of a King to celebrate the birth of his son by one of his favorite concubines, Huangfei. It was therefore called Huangfei Pagoda at that time. During the Ming dynasty, Japanese pirates attacked Hangzhou. Suspecting the pagoda contained weapons, they burned its wooden elements, leaving only the brick skeleton, as can be seen from Ming paintings of the West Lake. It collapsed in 1924 but was rebuilt in 2002, since when it has been a popular tourist attraction.

  Foot Massage Tips:

The Chinese believe that foot massage can help with sleeping problems, digestion, and a number of other issues. At some point during most foot massages, hammer-like tools are sometimes pounded into the recipient’s feet and legs. This practice is thought to increase circulation. These tools are known as lang chui (榔槌), or lang tou (榔头). At the beginning of the massage you soak your foot in medicine water called yao shui (药水). Different types of water have different effects on the body, and if you are unsure of what type of water to get, you can ask “qing wen, wo shi he pao na zhong yao shui? 请问,我适合泡哪种药水?” (Basically just, “excuse me, what type of medicine water should I get?”)

Those trained in foot massage say that they can tell how healthy a person is simply by feeling their feet. Stiffness in certain areas implies certain organs are unhealthy. If you feel what foot masseuses refer to as needle pain, this implies that there is a problem with whatever organ that part of your foot is associated. If you feel what is referred to as exploding pain or bitter pain, this is normal. If you’ve ever had a foot massage, this most likely makes sense to you. If you haven’t, it will.
