Hangzhou ranked second among China’s 60 most popular tourist cities in 2014, according to a survey by the China Tourism Academy.

Hangzhou advanced to No. 2 spot in the ranking from the eighth place in 2013, according to a survey report released by the academy under the National Tourism Administration.

The city’s fast rise in ranking is attributed to marked improvement in environment, transportation and services, the report said.

Wuxi, Hangzhou, Qingdao, Chengdu and Ningbo took the top five spots in the ranking, followed by Suzhou, Huangshan, Chongqing, Xiamen and Zhuhai.
